Bring Brighter Futures to the Children of IMEC School
• Are you looking for ways to be in mission and make a lasting difference?
• Want to use your knowledge and skills to serve others?
• Want to experience a people-to-people cultural exchange while in mission?
Then consider joining one of Mount Olivet UMC’s mission teams to IMEC School in Arcahaie, Haiti. Our teams work through the Thomas Food Project (TFP), which creates 21st century learning environments for children in some of Haiti’s poorest schools. Your church can also explore forming its own team to assist one of these schools.
Working with TFP and IMEC staff to determine needs, we have already deployed portable solar power, a clean water system and classroom laptops. Our next team (October 3-10) will help with building a rain catch system, teach hands-on science projects, deploy an Internet-In-A-Box local network and provide and demo household water filters in homes in the community. The filter units employ local materials.
And as we review the talents of our team members, we have the flexibility to add other tasks. This could include building a school garden, leading a Saturday Bible School and helping launch grounds improvements that will serve the children and help generate income for the school.
A couple slots remain on our fall mission team (Oct 3-10), and we hope to send a team next spring. Cost is approximately $1500, depending on airline fees. This mission trip is also supported by UMVIM and will be listed on the SEJ UMVIM web site soon.
Says James Lazarre, project manager of the Thomas Food Project, “God has given talents to each of us, and each of can make a difference.” Let us show you how. Contact Kenn Speicher for more information. 703-328-2607 speicherak@verizon.net
